“ Coby was unbelievable in the second half tonight. I know I hit a couple of shots late, but it was really Coby kind of carrying us for a good part there in that second half and he’s been doing that.’”
– Sacramento Kings Interim leader Doug Christie said about Chicago Bull's guard Coby White
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Sacramento, Calif. — Coby White proves again and again that he owns Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.
After scoring 4 points in the 1st half, the 6-foot- 5 shooting guard scored 15 points in the 3rd quarter, followed by an output of 16 buckets in the fourth to help the Chicago Bulls beat the Sacramento Kings 128-116 on March 20.
He made 9 of 12 shots from the field, 2 of 3 in 3-point territory, and 11 of 12 free throws from the foul line – all in the 2nd half. The Bulls (30-40, 17-18 on the road) eradicated a 19-point deficit in the 1st half to pull out the victory.
“Yeah, spectacular player. I’m a fan of Coby’s actually. He just put his head down and he just said, ‘I want it. I’m going to go get it,’” Kings interim leader Doug Christie said. “And they (the Kings players) already know how I feel about that, you can’t let that happen.”
Kevin Huerter scored 25 points in his return to Sacramento, where he spent 2 ½ seasons before being traded to the Bulls. Nikola Vučević added 24 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists for the Bulls, who have won 4 of their last 6 contests. Tre Jones had 15 points and 7 assists.
Malik Monk had 34 points and 5 assists and DeMar DeRozan finished with 22 points and 5 assists, for the Kings (35-34, 18-16 at Golden 1 Center), who are still a fixture in the 9th spot of the Western Conference. Zach LaVine returned from a 1-game absence due to personal reason. He shot 9 times, connecting on two attempts for 8 points.
Trey Lyles had 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Kings off the bench. Doug Christie is 22-16 as the interim leader of the Kings. Keegan Murray had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Jake LaRavia added 10 points.
The Kings made an astonishing 11 of 17 shots (64.7%) from 3-point territory and held a 39-28 lead after the 1st quarter. Monk had 5 threes, while Lyles made 4 beyond the arc.
Monk’s basket with 3:51 remaining in the 1st half gave the Kings a 59-40 edge. The Bulls went on an 11-2 run to cut the margin 61-51 with a trey by Huerter but the Kings managed to lead by 9 points at intermission.
White’s 12-foot shot at the 4:18 mark of the 3rd quarter tied the game 80-80 all. The Bulls took an 83-80 lead after White converted a 3-point play during Chicago’s next possession. The Bulls lead by as many as 7 points before ending the frame ahead 92-89.
Behind 103-102, the Bulls went on a spirited 17-3 run, completed by a White layup with 3:20 remaining in the game. The Kings got no closer than 6 points the rest of the way.
