THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Sacramento, Calif. — On March 14, the Sacramento Kings didn’t look like a Play-In Game prospect in their 122-106 loss to the current NBA Western Conference’s 11th-place occupiers, the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns (31-36, 19-13 at Phoenix Arena), losers of their last 2 matches, matches made 24 of 43 shots (55.8%) in 3-point territory, including 41 of 79 (51.9%) from the field overall.

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker had 22 points each for the Suns. Tyus Jones made all 6 of his shots from beyond the arc to finish with 20 points. Booker, Durant, and Brady Beal had 4 3-pointers each, while Royce O’Neal connected on 3 attempts beyond the arc.


It’s the Kings' 4th-straight loss. In the last 3 losses, Sacramento has given up an astonishing total of 68 of 122 (55.7%) 3-pointers to the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Suns.


DeMar DeRozan had 23 points, Zach LaVine scored 21 and Malik Monk added 18 for the the Kings (33-33, 17-18 on the road), who are still in 9th place in the Western Conference but the Suns move within a 1 ½ games of the 10th place Dallas Mavericks.

"We gotta do whatever we gotta to win a game," LaVine told the broadcast team after the game.


Domantas Sabonis returned to the court after a 6-game absence with a hamstring strain, assembling a triple-double in the form of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists in 30 minutes.


The Suns built up a 19-point advantage on their way to a 36-22 1st quarter outing. The Suns made 6 of 13 shots from 3-point territory and 15 points from the bench while the Kings were off to another slow start.


In the 2nd quarter, the Kings struck back to cut the Suns’ margin 59-57 on a 3-pointer by Murray with 58 seconds left in the first half. Durant’s trey gave Phoenix a 62-57 lead at intermission. Kings outscored the Suns 35-26 in 2nd frame.


Phoenix opened the second half with 4 straight threes – 3 by Beal and 1 by Durant – to lead 76-63. The Suns boosted their advantage to 18 points before starting the 4th quarter with a 97-82 margin. Phoenix made a total of 7 threes in the 3rd frame.

Kings: Bench outscored 45-15.
Suns: Made 12 of 22 shots beyond the arc in the first half of play, Jones knocked down 4 treys.

SIGNIFICANT JUNCTURES
Mason Plumlee was ejected at the 5:47 mark of the third quarter for an excessive foul against Sabonis.
