THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Sacramento, Calif. — Russell Westbrook had 25 points and five rebounds and Jamal Murray made 14 of 15 free throws to finish with 24 points to give the Denver Nuggets a 116-110 conquest over the Sacramento Kings on March 5.


Serbian superstar Nikola Jokić supplied 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists in 38 minutes for the Denver (40-22, 21-9 at Ball Arena), who keep pace in the NBA Western Conference with 3rd place behind the Los Angeles Lakers (2nd) and Oklahoma City Thunder (1st).


Christian Braun added 15 points and Michael Porter Jr. scored 13 for the Nuggets.



DeMar DeRozan had 35 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Kings (32-29), who ended a 4-game winning mark and finished 3-1 on their road trip. DeRozan made 14 of 32 shots from the field, 4 of 6 beyond the arc, and 3 of 4 at the foul line.


Zach LaVine had 20 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, while Jonas Valančiūnas provided 19 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in 31 minutes. Jake LaRavia scored all of his 15 buckets in the first half for the Kings.


The Kings fall 17-15 on the road this season and hold 19 victories against 10 losses under the direction of interim coach Doug Christie. Sacramento momentarily fell to 9th in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Clippers.


Malik Monk was removed from the lineup and shelved earlier in the day due to a toe injury. Domantas Sabonis sat out his second game with a left hamstring strain. Aaron Gordon did not play for the Nuggets.


After the Kings jumped out to an 8-point lead, the Nuggets returned to cut the margin 27-25 on a basket by Pickett at the 2:30 mark of the 1st quarter. With the services of LaRavia, the newly acquired player from Memphis Grizzlies scored 11 points on the Kings 15-4 run. The Kings ended the first interval with a 42-29 advantage.


The Nuggets opened up the 2nd quarter with a 6-0 run until the Kings countered with an 11-4 for a 53-39 lead. Sacramento led 65-55 at the half. LaRavia had 15 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers in 11 minutes.


DeRozan scored 18 points, including 3 treys in the third quarter to keep the Kings out in front with a 93-84 lead through 36 minutes of action. He passed Patrick Ewing with 23, 818 points.


The Nuggets took the lead 96-95 on a 3-pointer by Zeke Nnaji. After a see-saw battle of lead exchanges, LaVine made 2 free throws to give the Kings a 102-99 edge with 4:52 remaining in the game. It was Sacramentos’ last lead of the game.


The Nuggets went on a 14-5 run, stamped with a 3-point basket by Westbrook at the 1:28 mark. The Kings got no closer than 3 points in the closing seconds of the game. Murray was fouled 3 separate times behind the arc. He didn’t connect on any discharges but made all 9 attempts at the foul line.

ESSENTIAL CONCLUSIONS
Kings: Gave up 56 points in the paint. After scoring 40 in the free-throw lane in the first half, the Kings finished with 52 PITPs.

Nuggets: Only played 8 players.


SIGNIFICANT JUNCTURES
Nuggets made 24 of 30 shots at the charity stripe, including 14 by Murray.
